Antique Belle Époque Souvenir Vannes Jewelry Box

Lovingly collected from the markets of France, we are thrilled to share with you this exquisite Antique Belle Époque Souvenir Jewelry Box. This extraordinary box is wondrously special for sure; unique with its own journeyed story. Dating from the early 1900s, this nostalgic and romantic box served as a lasting memory from an undoubtedly magical sojourn to the beautiful city of Vannes in the Brittany region of northwest France. 

Hand-crafted using thick beveled glass and a gilt metal frame embellished with decorative flourishes, the interior of the box is lined in a gently faded dove grey fabric intended to safely hold the most precious, favored piece of jewelry. The lid is decorated with a hand-tinted image of an historic bronze statue memorializing 17th century French novelist and playwright Alain-René Lesage who was born nearby. The statue is set along a tree-lined promenade known as "La Rabine" located near the port of Vannes.  In the background, the historic town is seen with the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Vannes just visible in the distance. Thin strips of lustrous mother-of-pearl add dimension and sheen.
