Developed during the Renaissance in France and Italy, faience has a colorful charm that is at once both naive and sophisticated. A certain style of decoration that can only be described as faience was popular in France from the 1920's through the 1950's and exemplifies the look of what we now often refer to as "French Country".
Found at market in France, this traditional Soup Plates are decorated with the colors and the clean, geometric shapes favored during the Art Deco era. Produced in the small town of Badonviller in the Lorraine region of France, this charming red and blue pattern was named after Elbeuf, another small town located in Upper Normandy.
Naive? Perhaps. Sophisticated? We think so. Beautiful? Bien sur!
