Rescued from a long-shuttered restaurant supply warehouse in Chicago, we are proud to offer a limited collection of unused American-made china. Produced from the 1920s to the 1960s, these nostalgic pieces are about as honest and pure as dinnerware gets. Clean, simple shapes decorated with the colors and patterns reminiscent of their era. And above all, these pieces are of a quality that is near impossible to find today at any price.
Produced by the now-shuttered Mayer China Company, a Bread and Butter Plate with a decorative scrolling leaf design in mustard gold around the rim.
The Mayer China Company was started as the Mayer Potteries Company, Ltd. by Joseph and Ernest Mayer in 1881 in Beaver Falls, PA. They produced a variety of products which included ironstone dinnerware, white granite dinner sets, whiteware and toilet sets. Starting around 1914, the company gradually discontinued production of home use dinnerware and focused exclusively on the manufacture of commercial-grade china for use in hotels, restaurants, railroad dining cars and steamships. The Mayer China company was purchased by the Shenango China Company in 1964. After this there was a series of changing owners until is was bought by Syracuse China Company in 1984. By the early 1990s, Syracuse closed down its Mayer China plant and the history of a once-great company came to an end.
