A classic Pastis Pitcher produced in France for the Berger brand.
Pastis, the anise-flavored alcohol-based aperitif is synonymous with the south of France. Flavored with star anise, green anise, fennel, licorice roots & various other herbs (up to seventy total!), pastis was first produced in 1915 following the outlaw of absinthe. The drink was popularized & first marketed on a broad scale by Paul Ricard in Marseilles in 1932. Pastis, like absinthe, has a number of accoutrements & rituals associated with it. Alongside the glass of pastis, water is served in glass or ceramic carafes labeled with the pastis manufacturer's name & logo.
Founded in 1830 as a small distillery, Berger was one of the creators of the freshest symbol of Provencal culture - Pastis.
Produced in France by the Berger company for exclusive use in cafés & bistros, a wonderful ceramic pitcher in a size a bit more petite than was typical. In excellent vintage condition, it perfectly captures the je ne sais quoi French bistro style.
Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. Approximately 6" high x 4 1/4" wide x 6" long from the tip of the spout to the tip of the handle.
